 (part 2 of the burning trilogy)

we understood.

neither of 'us' was ready.

but it was burning within us.

it was something we had to say.

we said we-love-you.

knowing it wasn't the same.

and if we try to hold her.

it's only gonna hurt 'us'.

we've just gotta let our heart burn

It burns for us to say this,

    but it's coming from our heart.

It's been too long coming,

    much longer and we'll fall apart.

Really hoped 'we' could work out,

    but we don't think she'll ignore her fears.

We can, but if we do this alone,

    it's only gonna end in tears.

Think it's best we go back to pretending,

    that we are happy just as friends.

Watch her move on blissfully,

    and wait for our tears ends.

We think that we should let it burn.

'cause our heart can't heal like it used to

even though this is going to scar

except we hate the thought of her with someone else

Writing pages we aren't supposed to,

    putting things out that we shouldn't.

'Cause her feelings aren't the same,

    knew from the start that she couldn't.

This whole thing was an accident,

    but sometimes lightning does strike twice.

We ran headlong towards it,

    ignoring our own best advice.

We admit that our first mistake,

    was trying to relearn how to feel.

Now we're just afraid our heart,

     won't be be back, or ever again heal.

We think that we should let it burn.
