Shelter From The Storm
Shelter From the Storm
Seems like another lifetime,
one of pain and fears.
When the darkness was a virtue,
and love was full of tears.
We stumbled in the wilderness,
a creature void of form.
Come in, she said, I'll give you cover -
I'll give you shelter from the storm.
And if we have the chance again,
you can rest assured.
We'll always do our best by her,
on that we give our word.
In this world of cold, pain and death,
with dreams fighting to be born.
Come in, she said, I'll give you cover -
I'll give you shelter from the storm.
That first night no words between us,
by then "we" thought no risk involved.
Everything up to that point,
had proven to "us", be involved.
If you can, imagining a place,
where it's always safe and warm.
Come in, she said, I'll give you cover -
I'll give you shelter from the storm.
"We" were burning with desire,
long buried emotions are so frail.
"We" had proven to each other,
"we" had tigers by the tail.
Hunted by "our” past's no more,
we grabbed the unicorn by her horn.
Come in, she said, I'll give you cover -
I'll give you shelter from the storm.
Suddenly we turned around,
and she was standing there.
With an ivy tattoo her wrist,
stars in her eyes and wind in her hair.
She walked up to us so gracefully,
and took away our crown of thorns.
Come in, she said, I'll give you cover -
I'll give you shelter from the storm.
Now there's a wall between "us",
what "we" had has been lost.
"We" each took too much for granted,
and "our" signals got crossed.
Just to think that it all began,
on an uneventful morn.
Come in, she said, I'll give you cover -
I'll give you shelter from the storm.
Now we're living in a foreign land,
hung on a cross built on watch towers.
Sanity walks the razor's edge,
someday we'll lose ours.
If we could turn back the clock,
to before "our" love became tattered & torn.
To the day she said, Come in, I'll give you cover -
I'll give you shelter from the storm.
(cover us, cover us)
(won't you cover us)
(please give us shelter from the storm)
