Looking back at "us" we see,
   "we" never really got it right.
You only ever thought of you,
   but "we" were in a situation with no win.
We thought you were the antidote to our pain,
   but we were wrong, 'cos you only wanted to get high.

What We Really Need To Say -
We're Sorry For The Way "We" Ended -
How Something Hot, Turned So Cold -
Seems "We" Were Never Meant To Be -
We're Sorry To Have Believed Your Lies.

Maybe in a different life,
   "we" could try for "us" again.
But all we now can see,
   is we only got half the truth.
It's one thing to forgive the past and go on,
   and another to be constantly surprised.

We really needed you to be true,
   to reveal the screwed-up side of you.
But it was all locked deep inside,
   and then you'd act out irresponsibly.
We never really wanted you to go,
   there were so many things you should have known.

we guess for "us", there really was no hope,
   we fell for the dream you sold
and the demons you we're up against -
   we could have helped you fight.
