He Said He Loves Her

      HE SAID HE LOVES HER

he said I love you. . .
  she said I don't know what to say to that.
    he wasn't in her mind, and there ain't nothin' he can do.
so he swallow hard. . .
  screamed through the Afghan night.
    tryin' to figure out how he had read the whole thing wrong.

and in the silence
his heart begins to unravel
he never knew her
and he never will now.

Fallin' into love a slow painful climb.
Puttin' his heart back out on the line.
Closin' the door on all the pains he used to know.
Fallin' into love a stumble back on to his feet.
Burnin' inside from a moon lit heat.

And finding out that he has to just let it go.

he know's she'll call. . .
  him out of the blue some day
    and she'll think she's talkin' to who he used to be.
So when he tells her. . .
  he needs to just stay alone.
     his heart breaks as her voice cracks when she says goodbye.

and in the silence
his heart continues to unravel
she never knew him
and she never will now

Fallin' into love just fucked up his life.
Puttin' his heart right back under the knife.
Closin' the door on all the dreams he he'd hoped for.
Fallin' into love knocked him off his feet.
Burnin' again on that dead end street.
And finding out that he has to just let it go.

Oh and nothing feels as bad as letting go.

He said he loves her.
