Unsent Letters

              Unsent Letters

Nightfall, we're almost out of this town.
Destination, nowhere close to you.
Slowly driven to this point.
How deep our silver-eyed fire burns
We've no intention of confession tonight.
We need to put some distance down.
But miles didn’t make your image fade.
And they couldn’t erase your smile.

Everything reminds us -
Wet grey gold-lit streets -
Cheesecake displays near-lovers meet -
We feel the grasp of your hand still -
See your face on the mountain grass -
Breathing whisper what is this -
Bent so close ‘we’ nearly kiss -
Although we never will.

Strange there's still this hurtful need.
The usual scream of rainbow dreams.
How desire can make the heart bleed.
Could it be, we always knew.
“As you wish” is meaningless.
No candlelight that causes burn.
Memories of you mingle,
With old unwelcome friends.
So sad they've returned

Everything reminds us -
Footsteps on the moon -
Crazy spinning sultry glance -
We inhale your presence still -
These your arms of daring grace -
Encircle us, what pact is made -
Desire is your masquerade -
Want us you never will.

You live for truth.
And gave us an illusion.
Now we are used to this confusion.
But we know, yes we know.
This story has an end.
Ever groped for a connection.
Ever hoped for more affection.
For we know.
We know we are your friend.
Only your friend
